A Jewish Musical Note

This song was chosen because we love listening to music in other languages. We try to be discerning about which songs we listen to, of course - because I love other languages anyway, I enjoy looking up the meaning of the lyrics of these foreign songs!
I have a collection of songs in several languages - German, Spanish, Dutch, Romanian, Russian, and Hebrew (which is what this month's song is in) are just some of them. Look out for songs in these and other languages in future blog posts over the coming months (as well as English of course!)
Although some Jewish music can tend to be very sombre and sad-sounding, other Jewish music is cheerful and rhythmic. This song is a very upbeat - scroll down for a rough translation of the words.

I believe the artist of this song, "Baruch Ata Adonai Eloheinu", that we've listened to in our studio recently is Jonathan Settel.
The lyrics presented in this video are the transliterated Hebrew lyrics in Spanish and also the Spanish translation. Here is a rough translation of the meaning in English:
" Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jakob,
The great, almighty, and awesome God.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
The Most High, Who rewards good deeds,
Bestows beneficent things, and remembers the kindness of the fathers.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
And who brings the Redeemer for His children's children
In virtue of His name with love.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
One Who is Helper, Saviour, and Protector;
Blessed are You, Defender of Abraham.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
Sustaining the living with grace,
Reviving the dead with many mercies.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
You are great, You raise the dead,
You are a great Lord to save.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers.
A Trust for the fallen, a Healer for the sick;
A Healer for the sick and a Freer for the prisoner.
Blessed are You, Lord our God;
Blessed are You, God of our fathers."
