A Musical Note - A Folk Song

celtic woman going to Scarborough fair

Folk songs have been around for hundreds of years - this particular one is a traditional English folk song from the Middle Ages with a nostagic, yearning, almost sad-sounding melody.

Although we enjoy listening to an instrumental version in our studio, the song does have lyrics. However, due to the fact that it is a folk song and it has therefore been passed down orally from generation to generation, there are various versions of the lyrics and it's not clear which exactly is the original. The song is a traditional English ballad in which a man makes difficult requirements of a woman he once knew at Scarborough Fair in order for her to prove her true love.

Scarborough is a place found in Yorkshire, England. History shows that a Market Fair was held in Scarborough going back as far as the 13th century - hence the title, Scarborough Fair.
